The eruption of Eyjafjallajokull, one of Iceland's many volcanoes, has dominated the news for the last few
weeks as the volcanic ash brought air travel in the region to a complete standstill. The timing of this
eruption could not have been worse for Europe, which is only starting on what remains a very fragile economic
recovery.
Locally, our economy appears to be on track for a sustained recovery. Growth figures for the first quarter of
this year are expected to be stronger and the World Cup should provide some economic benefits. Consumers,
however, continue to pay off debt rather than increase spending.

I hope all mothers had a wonderful, relaxing Mother's Day on May 9th.
Mother's Day is a time to thank our mothers for their selfless dedication to the often thankless task of raising
a family. But it should also be a time for mothers to take a moment to ensure that they are taking care of their
own needs. In the article The price of motherhood we look at the impact of time out of the work place on a woman's
retirement plans as well as the importance of financial protection.
The well-being of our children is close to all parents' hearts. Read the article Protect your children through your will
for practical advice on protecting your children's interests if you are not here to protect them yourself. In the article
Saving to educate your child, we look at the costs of education and the type of savings vehicles that can help provide
for those ever-increasing school fees.
