    Liberty Monthly Communication June 2010

Can you believe that the World Cup has finally arrived? It seems just yesterday that the announcement was made that South Africa would be hosting the event and, despite many challenges, we are now ready! Join Liberty in giving your full support to our team and let's give our visitors a welcome that will keep them coming back for more.

As most developed economies struggle with growing levels of government debt, we are reminded of the dangers of living beyond our means. Even though economic recovery appears to be underway, many countries are not able to take advantage of this recovery due to the state of their public finances.

Our local economic growth figures were a very welcome and pleasant surprise. In the past, South Africa has typically fallen behind the global economic recovery; this time we appear to be in the leading pack. However, our continued high levels of unemployment remain an area of great concern.

Find out more in our local and global economic reviews.

Six months into the new year, we are still uncertain about where the economy and the markets are headed. This uncertainty should not affect your portfolio if you have invested according to your needs. If you are feeling unsure about your investments, read the article Reviewing your portfolio on how to ensure that your portfolio is aligned to your needs. We have also included an article on how to Monitor your portfolio performance online, where we show you where to find more information about your investment portfolios.

Part of any review needs to take into account any changes to your life such as a marriage or the birth of a child. In the article Reviewing your circumstances we look at those areas of your life that may have changed and the steps you need to take to adjust your financial plan.

As much as we try to simplify our technical language, there are some technical words we cannot escape. To help you understand some of the words that may appear in your policy documents or letters, we have included our jargon buster: Liberty Lingo: Who are we talking about.

Thank you for the feedback we have received on these newsletters so far. Your comments and suggestions will help us to give you relevant information for planning and managing your finances.

Please keep talking to us and telling us what you think! You can email your comments to [email protected]

Kind regards
