Globally we have seen food prices rise by 10% within a few months. Weather conditions, competition
from biofuel manufacturers, and increased demand and consumption have pushed up food prices. Although
South Africa's food inflation has been contained so far, we will see the impact of higher food prices
in the year ahead.
On the local front, once again Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has walked the tightrope between ongoing
demands to spend more coupled with a squeeze on revenue due to a weaker economy. Overall the budget
was welcomed, but all eyes are now on government to deliver on job creation.
