    Liberty Monthly Communication June 2011
The world economy is struggling to cope after some nasty surprises including political turmoil, higher oil prices and earthquakes. While the risk of a return to recession conditions has diminished significantly in the past year, other risks, such as uneven economic performance across regions, a potential debt default in the Euro-area and high food and energy inflation, have increased.

Locally, there is a focus on interest rates and when we can expect the first interest rate hike. Reserve Bank Governor Gill Marcus made it clear that the Bank will increase rates if inflation moves out of target; however, the Bank has raised concerns about economic recovery.

At the beginning of the year we provided a month-by-month guide to organising your finances. We are now halfway through the year, so it is worth reviewing your finances by reading our article Are you on track? If not, we provide simple ways to start getting your finances in order.

Part of being on track is making sure your policies are up to date. I read with interest articles about former Springbok rugby player Joost van der Westhuizen who told the media that when he was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease, he checked if his policies would take care of his children.

Insurance is something you hope you will never need, but when you do need it, it is invaluable. The article When life happens is based on a letter from one of our customers and is a reminder that while life can sometimes feel like the roll of a dice, there are ways to stack the odds in your favour.

This is also the time of year that you will be getting your tax documents in order. Clients can obtain their Liberty tax documents from our website www.liberty.co.za or call us on 0860 456 789.

Thank you for the feedback we have received on these newsletters so far. Your comments and suggestions will help us to give you relevant information for planning and managing your finances.
