The US and certain countries in Europe face an unprecedented debt crisis. Having lived beyond their
means for too long, these countries now face the very real risk of becoming bankrupt. However, not
all countries share the same fate as prudent policies boost Germany's economy and developing countries
in Asia and Africa continue to outpace the rest.
Locally, we were once again spared the news of an interest rate hike as the Monetary Policy Committee
considered the growth objectives of its mandate. This gives consumers some breathing space to start
paying off their debt.

On 9 August we celebrated Women's Day. It is incredible that just over 100 years ago women in the Western

why are we still talking about women and their finances? Find out in our article

While women's issues will be topping the agenda this month, there are also other areas of our society that we
need to take a long hard look at if we are to create a world where our grandchildren will experience greater
equality and still be able to breathe fresh air. Read about the new investment code that Liberty will be adhering
to that will ensure that we consider environmental, social and governance issues when making our investment
decisions in Socially responsible investing gets a boost.
