Gold prices have been rising steadily for the last five years and this momentum has been fuelled by
further global uncertainly especially after rating agency Standard & Poors downgraded US debt for
the first time in history. Gold has effectively become the currency of choice – after all, where
do you invest when the world's trading currency is down–rated, Europe faces a debt crisis and
London town is burning down?
These global concerns have spilled over into our economy which is far weaker than expected as we are dragged down by the global turmoil. Exports are limited and consumer spending remains subdued.
