    Liberty Monthly Communication February 2010
Although there is uncertainty about a global economic recovery, economists believe that 2010 will be a better year than 2009, driven mostly by a recovery in major developing economies like China and Brazil.

At home, we are finally out of recession and should start to feel the benefits of the economic recovery. The anticipated increase in electricity prices, though, will hinder a significant improvement in household finances.

Find out more in our global and local economic reviews.

February is a good time to take stock of your retirement plan because you can still take advantage of the tax benefits of topping up your retirement fund before the tax year-end on 28 February. In the article "3 Essential rules for a comfortable retirement", Rowan Burger and Johan Kleu set out key strategies that will ensure you are financially independent on retirement.

Tax savings on retirement
Read about how tax savings can increase your retirement income by 60% in the article "How the Taxman can double your retirement savings" (we have re-published this article from our August newsletter to remind you of the benefits of saving with pre-tax income).

Where to save for retirement
We take a look at the benefits of using retirement vehicles to protect your retirement savings in "Your retirement money pot", while "Linked Investments or Life Assurance RAs" explains the differences between these two savings vehicles and how to select the right one for your needs.

We encourage you to speak to your financial adviser to make sure you are on track for a comfortable retirement.

Thank you for the feedback we have received on these newsletters so far. Your comments and suggestions will help us to give you relevant information for planning and managing your finances.
