It is now four months into the new year and a good time to stand back and assess how South Africa is doing and
what this means for the individual. In the article Taking Stock, Liberty economist Tendani Mantshimuli makes
sense of what has happened in the last four months and how this bodes for the rest of the year. Are we out of

retrenchment. Michelle Human takes a look at these changes and how they affect your retirement provisions
in Making your retirement savings recession-proof.
Still on a tax theme, SARS is collecting information in order to verify individual tax returns. This means
that we need to update our records and we may contact you if we are missing information required by SARS for
your tax certificates. More information is available in the newsletter note Update your tax details.
As part of our aim to continuously deliver products and services that meet our clients' needs, Liberty has
recently made significant changes to the way we insure diabetics. If you suffer from diabetes or know someone
who does, we encourage you to read the article Taking Control of Diabetes.
